Givetian, a. Geol.|ʒɪˈviːʃən, -eɪʃən| [ad. F. Givétien (J. Gosselet 1879, in Ann. de la Soc. géol. du Nord VI. 130), f. Givet, name of a commune in north-eastern France: see -ian. The Fr. spelling was formerly in English use.] Name of the upper one of the two stages that constitute the Middle Devonian in Europe; of or pertaining to this stage or the geological period during which it was deposited.
