Ajuga, n. Bot.|əˈdʒuːgə| [mod.L., a. med.L. ajuga (Diefenbach), adopted by Linnaeus in his Species Plantarum (1753) II. 561 as the name of a genus. App. a var. of L. abiga a plant having the power to induce abortion (f. abigere drive away: see abigate v.).] A genus of plants of the mint family which lack the floral upper lip characteristic of other labiates and include several species (esp. bugle, A. reptans) cultivated as ornamental ground cover; (also ajuga) a plant of this genus.
