Alcian, n.|ˈælsɪən| Also alcian. [Perh. f. phthalocyanine n., with phonetic respelling.] A proprietary name used with following colour name to designate various pigments derived from copper phthalocyanine, esp. in Alcian Blue, a water-soluble blue dye originally used in textile printing and later as a histological stain for glycosaminoglycans.
