Given by Hernandez (1615 Rer. Med. Nov. Hisp. Thes.) as the native American name of a bird which he describes as being no larger than a wren, green, and so courageous as to attack the raven. His description is repeated (after Nieremberg in 1635) by Ray (Willughby's Ornith. App. 1678) whence the Eng. currency of the name. The identification of the bird meant by Hernandez is uncertain.]
