Harassment of those of known or suspected communist sympathies; also attrib. So (as a back-formation) ˈred-bait v. trans. and intr., to oppose, thwart, or persecute because of communist associations; ˈRed-baiter, red-baiter, one who seeks out and harasses supposed communists.
