Involving flow in one direction only; spec. applied to: (a) a type of reciprocating steam engine in which the steam in the cylinder flows in one direction from inlet(s) to outlet; (b) scavenging in an internal-combustion engine in which there is a similar flow of waste gases in the cylinder. Also ellipt., a uniflow steam engine.
