ˈunijunction Electronics. Also uni-junction. [uni- 1 b.] A negative-resistance device consisting of a rectifying p–n junction in the middle of a length of semiconducting material that has an ohmic contact at each end, used as a switching element.
1957Automatic Control Feb. 24 The silicon unijunction transistor has characteristics resembling a neon light; it can be wired to a capacitor and a resistor to yield an oscillator. 1962Simpson & Richards Physical Princ. Junction Transistors viii. 192 A device whose regenerative property is obtained in a somewhat different manner..is the uni-junction transistor or double-based diode. 1981Nashelsky & Boylestad Devices vii. 291 Recent interest in the unijunction transistor (UJT) has, like that for the SCR, been increasing at an exponential rate. |
