‖ Unione Siciliana|uniˈone sitʃiliˈana| Also (erron.) Unione Siciliano, etc. [It., lit. ‘Sicilian union’.] A criminal organization controlled by Sicilians, operating in Italy and the United States. Similar but not equivalent to the Mafia. The Union's roots in the U.S. were apparently as a mutual protection society amongst early Sicilian immigrants.
