hell-fire, hell fire [Orig. two words, helle being genitive case; in later use usually hyphened. In N.T. versions rendering Gr. γέεννα τοῦ πυρός lit. gehenna (or hell) of fire, i.e. fiery hell.] 1. The fire of hell.
