1677Moxon Mech. Exerc. i. 8 If it be too hot it will Red-sear, that is break or crack under the Hammer while it is working between Hot and Cold. Ibid. 13 Spanish Iron would be as good as Swedish Iron were it not subject to Red-sear (as Work-men phrase it) that is to crack betwixt hot and cold. [Hence in Holme Armoury (1688), Harris Lex.
