‖ hemi-elytrum Zool.|hɛmɪˈɛlɪtrəm| Pl. -a. Also erron. hemelytrum. [mod.L., f. Gr. ἡµι- hemi- + ἔλυτρον elytrum, sheath.] The fore wing of an insect, which is coriaceous at the base and membranous at the end, as in the Hemiptera and Heteroptera.
