▪ I. † hepatite1 Obs.|ˈhɛpətaɪt| Also 4 epetite. [ad. L. hēpatītis, a. Gr. ἡπατῖτις.] An early name for a precious stone (hepatitis gemma Pliny) said to resemble the liver in some respect.
