herpolhode Geom.|ˈhɜːpəlhəʊd| [f. Gr. ἑρπ-ειν to creep + πόλος pole + ὁδός way, path.] A plane curve described by the point of contact of an ellipsoid with a fixed plane, the centre of the ellipsoid being fixed while the ellipsoid rolls upon the plane.
