Herschelian, a. (n.)|həˈʃɛlɪən| [f. proper name Herschel + -ian.] Of or pertaining to the astronomer Sir William Herschel (1738–1822), or his son Sir John Herschel (1792–1871). Herschelian (telescope), a form of reflecting telescope having a concave mirror slightly inclined to the axis. Herschelian rays, the ultra-red heat rays of the spectrum, the existence of which was first proved by Sir W. Herschel.
