A short-acting barbiturate, C12H16N2O3, with hypnotic properties; also known by proprietary names, as Evipal, Evipan; loosely, = hexobarbitone sodium, the monosodium derivative of hexobarbitone, a very short-acting and soluble anæsthetic usu. given intravenously or intramuscularly; also called hexobarbitone soluble.

Ibid. 20 Nov. 646/1 Cyanosis rapidly became extreme; 0·5 g. of hexobarbitone soluble (evipan sodium) was dissolved in 5 c.cm. of distilled water and administered intravenously. 1952Martindale's Extra Pharmacopœia (ed. 23) I. 260 Hexobarbitone sodium has largely been superseded by thiopentone sodium which gives greater muscular relaxation. 1962J.
