A New Zealand evergreen tree, Elæocarpus dentatus, yielding a black dye; the wood of this tree. Also attrib.
1832G. Bennett in London Med. Gaz. X. 794/2 This tree, the Elœocarpus dicera of Forster, the Inau of the natives, is found abundant on the hills of New Zealand. 1835W. Yate Account N.Z.
