reed-sparrow [reed n.1] a. A common British bird, Emberiza schœniclus, frequenting reedy places. Also called reed-bunting. b. The sedge-warbler. The two were formerly sometimes distinguished as (a) greater reed-sparrow and (b) lesser reed-sparrow. The former is not a song-bird (cf. quot. 1802).
