hispa Ent.|ˈhɪspə| [mod.L. (C. Linnæus Systema Naturæ (ed. 12, 1767) II. 603), f. L. hispidus bristly, hairy.] A tropical leaf-beetle of the genus so named. Hence ˈhispid, ˈhispine adjs., of or pertaining to the family Hispinæ, which has Hispa as its typical genus.
