A rare basic alumino-silicate of lithium, magnesium, and aluminium that is an orthorhombic member of the amphibole group and typically occurs in light blue to dark violet masses.
1914Chem. Abstr. VIII. 1556 The formation of the holmquistite was no doubt a pneumatolytic process, connected with the intrusion of the well known Li-pegmatites of the region. 1930Amer. Mineralogist XV. 292 Holmquistite from the North Carolina locality is composed largely of the lithia member of the amphibole group and a minor amount of a deficient silica member commonly found in basic rocks. 1966W.
