homatropine Pharm.|həʊˈmætrəpiːn| Also † -in. [ad. G. homatropin (A. Ladenburg 1880, in Ber. d. Deut. Chem. Ges. XIII. 107), f. homo- b + atropine.] A synthetic alkaloid, C16H21NO3, the tropine ester of mandelic acid, which is used chiefly as the hydrobromide in ophthalmology to dilate the pupil of the eye.
