hot desk, n. orig. and chiefly Brit. Brit. |ˈhɒt dɛsk|, U.S. |ˈhɑt ˌdɛsk| [‹ hot adj. + desk n. Compare slightly later hot-desk v. hot-desking n.] A shared office desk or workstation, occupied on a temporary, ad hoc basis or part-time basis, and not allocated permanently to an individual. Cf. hotbed n. 3.
