1890in Century Dict. 1941Jrnl. Amer. Ceramic Soc. XXIV. 229 The closest approach to this was a profilograph which had been constructed by Abbott at the University of Michigan and a somewhat similar device which had been built in Germany by Schmaltz. These instruments used a diamond stylus mechanically mounted on a mirror in such a way that movements of the diamond point in a direction normal to the surface of the material could be magnified by an optical lever system and the results recorded on a photographic film. 1963Engineering 20 Sept. 360/1 The Bump-cutter employs 110 12 in diameter saw blades impregnated with natural diamonds. The design principle is based on a profilograph with the cutting head mounted on a 16 ft long frame supported by drive wheels at the rear and steering wheels at the front. 1976Attewell & Farmer Princ. Engin. Geol. x. 751 Unless joint surfaces are sufficiently exposed..to lend themselves to profilograph examination, it is difficult to see how a reduction factor can be applied. |
