hydroxyprogesterone Biochem. and Pharm.|haɪˌdrɒksɪprəʊˈdʒɛstərəʊn| [f. hydroxy- + progesterone.] Any of several synthetic derivatives of progesterone that have a hydroxyl group in place of one of the hydrogen atoms of the steroid nucleus; esp. the derivative in which the hydroxyl group is at position 17, used (chiefly as the caproate ester) as a long-acting progestational compound in cases of corpus luteum deficiency.
