hyostylic, a. Anat.|haɪəʊˈstaɪlɪk| [f. hyo- + Gr. στῦλ-ος pillar + -ic.] Having the lower jaw suspended from the cranium by a hyomandibular bone (opposed to autostylic and amphistylic, q.v.). Also said of the lower jaw itself.
