† hyperaspist Obs.|-ˈæspɪst| Also in Gr. form ‖ hyperaˈspistes. [ad. Gr. ὑπερασπιστής protector, defender, f. ὑπερασπίζειν to hold a shield over, f. ἀσπίς shield.] A defender, champion.
