hypogamy Anthrop.|haɪˈpɒgəmɪ| [f. hypo- + -gamy.] The marriage of a woman into a lower caste or into a tribe of lower standing than her own. Hence hyˈpogamous a., pertaining or relating to hypogamy. Cf. hypergamy.
