‖ hypotrachelium Arch.|hɪpəʊtrəˈkiːlɪəm| Also 7– hypotrachelion. [L. (Vitruvius), ad. Gr. ὑποτραχήλιον the lower part of the neck, f. ὑπό hypo- 1 + τράχηλος neck. Cf. F. hypotrachélion.] The lower part or neck of the capital of a column; in the Doric order, the groove or sinking between the neck of the capital and the shaft.
