hypsochromic, a.|hɪpsəʊˈkrəʊmɪk| [ad. G. hypsochrom (M. Schütze 1892, in Zeitschr. f. physik. Chem. IX. 136), f. hypso- + Gr. χρῶµ-α colour: see -ic.] Causing or characterized by a lightening of colour, or a shift of the absorption spectrum towards shorter wavelengths.
