alphametic, n. (and a.)|ælfəˈmɛtɪk| [f. alphabetic a. + arithmetic n.] A type of mathematical puzzle in which an arithmetical proposition is expressed using a different letter for some or all of the ten digits, the task being to find what digit each letter stands for. Also attrib. or as adj.
