Soc. Lex. 1886). ichthyocephalous |-ˈsɛfələs| a. Ichthyol. [Gr. κεϕαλή head], belonging to the Ichthyocephali, a group of fishes in Cope's classification (1870) including certain eels. ichthyocoprolite |-ˈkɒprəlaɪt| Palæont. [coprolite], the fossilized excrement of a fish; also ichthyocoprus. ichthyocrinid |ˌɪkθɪˈɒkrɪnɪd| a. Palæont. [see crinoid], belonging to the extinct family Ichthyocrinidæ of articulate crinoids of Devonian age; so ichthyˈocrinoid a. and n. ichthyodont |ˈɪkθɪəʊˌdɒnt| Palæont. [Gr. ὀδοντ- tooth], a fossil tooth of a fish. ichthyoˈfauna, the fish fauna, or fish-life, of a sea or region. ichthyˈolatry [-latry], fish-worship, the worship of a fish-god, as Dagon; hence ichthyolatrous |-ˈɒlətrəs| a. ichthyomancy |ˈɪkθɪəʊˌmænsɪ| [-mancy], divination by means of the heads or entrails of fishes; so ichthyoˈmantic a., of or relating to ichthyomancy. ichthyonomy |ɪkθɪˈɒnəmɪ| [Gr. -νοµία arrangement], arrangement or classification of fishes. ichthyopatolite |-ˈpætəlaɪt| Palæont. [Gr. πάτο-ς path + -lite], a fossil imprint supposed to be that of the pectoral fin-rays of a fish, used in progression on damp surfaces. ichthyophile |ˈɪkθɪəʊfaɪl|, ichthyˈophilist [Gr. ϕίλ-ος loving], a lover of fish or fishes. ichthyophthiran |-əʊfˈθaɪərən| Zool. [Gr. ϕθείρ louse] a., belonging to the crustacean order Ichthyophthira, parasites upon fishes; n. a crustacean of this order, a fish-louse. ichthyopodolite |-ˈpɒdəlaɪt| Palæont. [Gr. ποδ- foot + -lite], a fossil imprint supposed to have been made by some fish (Buckland 1844). ichthyopolism |ɪkθɪˈɒpəlɪz(ə)m| [Gr. ἰχθυοπώλ-ης fishmonger, πώλης seller], the sale of fish; so ichthyˈopolist, a seller of fish, a fishmonger. ichthyosarcolite |-ˈsɑːkəʊlaɪt| Palæont. [Gr. σάρξ, flesh + -lite], a fossil bivalve shell of the genus Caprinella. ˌichthyoˌsarcoˈtoxism [sarco- + tox-1], poisoning resulting from the ingestion of a fish whose flesh is poisonous. ichthyotomist |ɪkθɪˈɒtəmɪst| [Gr. -τοµος cutting + -ist], a dissector or anatomist of fishes; so ichthyˈotomy, dissection of fishes. ichthyoˈtoxism [tox-1], poisoning resulting from the natural poison or venom of a fish. ˌichthyˈtaxidermy, the taxidermy or stuffing of the skins of fishes as zoological specimens.
