† idoˈlothyous, a. Obs. Also erron. -thious. [f. Gr. εἴδωλο-ν idol + θύ-ειν to sacrifice + -ous; after idolothyte.] Offered or sacrificed to an idol.
1607Schol. Disc. agst. Antichr. i. i. 23 The thing being knowen to be Idolothious, a protestation that we honor not the Idol, serueth not the turne. 1637Gillespie Eng. Pop. Cerem. ii. ix. 39 What needed Paul to write so much against the scandall of meates, and against the scandall of Idolothious meats?
