Vanir, n. Scandinavian Mythol. Brit. |ˈvɑːnɪə|, U.S. |ˈvɑnɪ(ə)r| [‹ Old Icelandic vanir, plural of vanr, of uncertain origin.] A group of gods, including Njord and Freyr, often associated with fertility and the earth and contrasted with the Aesir. Cf. Aesir n.
