1864G. H. K. Thwaites Enumeratio Plantarum Zeylaniæ v. 369 I[mperata] arundinacea... Common in the hotter parts of the island. Nom. vulg. ‘Illook’. The leaves make an excellent thatch. 1931E. K. Cooke Geogr. Ceylon ii. x. 164 The grass of Talawa is usually long and coarse, very different from the average patana grass; it usually reaches about three or four feet in height.
