Vater, n. Anat.|fɑːtə(r)| The name of Abraham Vater (1684–1751), German anatomist, used with of and in the possessive to designate various anatomical structures described by him: ampulla of Vater, the region of convergence of the pancreatic duct and the bile duct in the wall of the duodenum, which may take the form of an ampulla; Vater's corpuscle (also corpuscle of Vater): see corpuscles of Vater s.v. corpuscle n. 2 a; papilla of Vater, a papilla found at the end of the common bile duct, in the lumen of the duodenum.
