1857Birch Anc. Pottery (1858) I. 165 The joints of the flat roof tiles were covered by the imbrex, or rain-tile, which was made semi-cylindrical, the sides generally upright with an arched top. Ibid. II. 229. 1888 Jrnl. Anthrop. Inst. Feb. 193 The absence of ‘imbrices’, which are a necessary adjunct in the formation of a Roman tiled roof. 2. One of the scales or overlapping pieces of an imbrication.
