‖ impetigo|ɪmpɪˈtaɪgəʊ| Pl. impetigines |-ˈɪdʒɪniːz|. [L. impetīgo, f. impetĕre to assail, attack: cf. vertigo.] A name given to various pustular diseases of the skin, and in pl. to such diseases in general. Most of the diseases now so called are non-febrile and non-contagious; but impetigo contagiosa is an acute contagious disease with febrile symptoms.
