c1425MS. Digby 233 fol. 224/2 Loke þat..þe mennes clothing by coloured with venet colour þat is water coloure. a1661B. Holyday Juvenal 226 Vegetius..says that ships, which are sent out as spies, should have their sails of the venet colour, that they may not be discerned by the enemies.
