1577in 10th Rep. Hist. MSS. Comm. App. V. 426 The great losse they sustayned in this ventadge by meanes of those with whom they have sente..their goodes in to Spayne. ▪ II. ventage2|ˈvɛntɪdʒ| Also 7–9 ventige. [f. vent n.2 + -age.] 1. One of the series of apertures or holes in the length of a wind instrument for controlling the notes; a finger-hole. In mod. use perh. originally from Shakespeare.
