ambrotype|ˈæmbrətaɪp| [? f. Gr. ἄµβροτος immortal (? imperishable), or perh. amber, + type.] The name given in U.S. to a photograph on glass, in which the lights are produced by the silver, and the shades by a dark background showing through.
