viscero-|ˈvɪsərəʊ| combining form, on Greek models, of L. viscera viscera, employed in anatomical terms, as viscero-branchial, viscero-pericardial, viscero-pleural (etc.), adjs. Also visceroˈcranium = splanchnocranium s.v. splanchno-; ˌvisceropˈtosis Path. (see quot. 1897); visceroˈtropic a. Med. [-tropic], tending to attack or affect the viscera; hence visceroˈtropism. The more correct combining form visceri- is given in some dictionaries, as viscericardial, etc.
