[ad. L. insculpĕre to carve or engrave on, f. in- (in-2) + sculpĕre to carve, or its F. repr. insculper (15–16th c. in Godef.). Used at first in pa. pple. insculpt, ad. L. insculpt-us; the finite vb. may have arisen in part from an analysis of this as insculp-t = insculp-ed.]
