1942E. V. Cowdry Probl. Ageing (ed. 2) xxiv. 627 The daughter epidermal cells that retain a basal location..are comparatively undifferentiated and may be called vegetative intermitotics. Ibid., The cells that are formed from vegetative intermitotics, and begin to differentiate may also be intermitotic with lives extending from one mitosis to the next. Their lives are, however, different insofar that they exhibit increasing specialization. Consequently they may be designated differentiating intermitotics. 1948W. Andrew tr. E. D. P. de Robertis's Gen. Cytol. xii. 324 Cowdry has classified cells into four groups on the basis of their degree of differentiation and ability to divide. The first group, vegetative intermitotic cells, comprises those undifferentiated cells which have the capacity to multiply continually. 1962L. von Sallmann et al. in A. Pirie Lens Metabolism Rel.
