Walschaerts Mech.|ˈvæl-, ˈwælʃɜːts, -ʃɑːts| Also Walschaert. The name of Egide Walschaerts (1820–1901), Belgian mechanic, used attrib. and in the possessive to designate a kind of valve-gear he invented that was used on some steam locomotives (see quot. 1911).
