watsonia Bot.|wɒtˈsəʊnɪə| Also Watsonia. [mod.L. (P. Miller Gardener's Dict. (ed. 7, 1759) s.v.), f. the name of Sir William Watson (1715–87), Scottish naturalist + -ia1.] A bulbous plant of the genus of this name (family Iridaceæ), native to South Africa and bearing spikes of white, pink, or red flowers similar to gladioli.
