† ˈjuffer Obs. [cf. Du. juffer maiden, young lady, miss; also, spar, beam, joint; worn-down form of jufvrouw, jonkvrouw; so Ger. jungfer (from jungfrau), also, in shipbuilding, juffer.] A piece of timber four or five inches square.
