[a. G. kallidin (E. Werle 1948, in Angew. Chem. LX. a. 53), f. G. kall-ikrein kallikrein + pept-id peptide: see -in1.]
†a. A supposed hypotensive peptide, released from a globulin by the enzyme kallikrein, which stimulates the uterus and intestine; later shown to be a mixture of two such peptides, bradykinin and kallidin (sense b). Obs.

XLIV. 5476 Kallidin (previously called DK substance) is a low-mol.-wt. peptide. 1959New Scientist 16 Apr. 856/1 When its properties were studied, bradykinin showed itself to be extremely similar to the peptide kallidin, whose existence was first demonstrated in Germany between the wars.
b. (Also kallidin II.) The peptide having the same sequence of constituent amino-acids as bradykinin except for an additional lysergic acid residue at the hydrogen end.
