kavir|kəˈvɪə(r)| Also kevir. [Pers.] A salt-desert, or more rarely a saline swamp, in Persia; terrain of this type; also spec. (the Kavir), the great central salt-desert of Persia, more commonly called the Dasht-i-kavir.
