kiteboarding, n. Brit. |ˈkʌɪtbɔːdɪŋ|, U.S. |ˈkaɪtˌbɔrdɪŋ| [‹ kiteboard n. + -ing suffix1. Compare slightly later kiteboard v., and slightly earlier kitesurfing n.] A sport or pastime in which participants ride a specially adapted surfboard or wakeboard while harnessed to a large kite controlled by hand-held strings, and use the wind for propulsion. In earlier use also: a similar pursuit using a wheeled board to move across land. Cf. kitesurfing n.
