A small stingless bee, Trigona australis.
1884H. J. Hockings in Trans. Entomol. Soc. London 149 The second species [of stingless bee] (‘Kootchar’) is also black in colour but has a fine yellow streak across the upper part of the thorax. Ibid. 154 ‘Kootchar’ are only to be found where a sandy soil is present. 1932Koochee [see karbi]. 1961Amer. Mus. Novitates No. 2026. 5 It was perhaps by error that Hockings attributes this species (under the aboriginal name of kootchar) to the coast. |
