A. adj. Of musical movement: orig. Rather slower than andante; but often taken to mean: With less of andante, i.e. rather quicker.
1819Pantolog., Andantino, in music, gentle, tender, and somewhat slower than andante. 1833Penny Cycl. I. 514 It..seems to be agreed, that andantino now shall signify a movement quicker than andante—that it shall be the medium between the latter and allegretto.
